What is Sla?
"Sla" is the Khmer word for the "areca catechu" or "areca betal palm." In Cambodia, sla flowers are often used in wedding ceremonies to signify the bond between husband and wife. When wedding guests throw the flowers on the bride and groom, they are wishing the newlyweds longevity and happiness in matrimony. Here at SLA, we take that tradition a step further and wish to bestow happiness in your travels!
Who we are?
Our team here is excited to show you our Khmer hospitality and Sla, which is a clean, fun and friendly environment.
We are open 24/7, with front desk staff to assist you at all times during your stay with us.
Our team takes pride in providing quality service in a professional and friendly manner, which we are very proud of. Please know that all service charges go directly to the staff.
Our ideals
We at Sla take pride in our cleanliness. Every staff from management to housekeeping takes a meticulous approach to inspecting our facilities in order to meet our high sanitation and hygiene standards.
Traveling away from home can be a scary experience, therefore it is so important that our guest receives our warmest hospitality. It is Sla's mission to ensure our guests comfortable and enjoyable stay.
We believe that finding the perfect accommodation is an essential element in one's travel plans, and often the best choice comes with a big price tag. With this belief in mind, Sla is ideal for travelers who are looking for a clean, friendly and affordable place to stay.
Environmental Consciousness
In attempting to conserve energy and be more environmentally conscious, our hostel uses solar panels to heat our water system. All bedrooms are equipped with energy saving inverter air conditioning and LED energy saving light bulbs. Our stairwells are setup with light sensors that automatically shut off when no one is around.
We have chosen a number of indoor plants for our hostel, not just because of their beauty but because these plants are also known for their abilities to reduce air pollutants, mold and bacteria.
- Snake plant (sansevieria trifasciata) or also known as mother-in-law's tongue, this plant is one of the best for filtering out air pollutants like formaldehyde, which is common in cleaning products, toilet paper, tissues and personal care products.
- Aloe vera helps clear formaldehyde and benzene, which can be a byproduct of chemical-based cleaners, paints and more.
- Caryota mitis variegate (Variegated Fishtail Palm) helps to reduce the VOCs founds in homes and are emitted from paints, lacquers, cleaning supplies, and air fresheners.
Instead of relying on chemical based deodorizers, we prefer to use eco-friendly alternatives such as activated charcoal and kaffir limes.
Khmer Cultural Values
In the Khmer culture, importance is placed upon the community aspect of eating. People eat family style, sharing dishes and enjoying each other's company. We kept this cultural ideal in mind when designing our kitchen. Guests are encouraged to buy food from the market and use our community fridge and facility to cook meals. We hope that through this focus on community, our guests can both feel at home and enjoy the Khmer experience as well as the cultures of their fellow travelers.
Cambodia has plenty of delightful vegetation to offer. In an effort to introduce our travelers to these fruits and vegetables, a few selected ingredients like passion fruit, watermelon and pineapple are infused into our beverages.
Our focus on Khmer value extends beyond our menu. Just like in any Khmer home, we ask that our guests kindly remove their shoes upon entering our hostel. Safe storage is available for our guests' footwear.
